The City of Seward does not have a specific division or
budget for inclusive recreation.
We are ready, willing and able to make our
programs fit the needs of
all with modifications
and/or special equipment.
Seward Parks & Recreation is proud to follow the guidelines
offered within the ADA
to bring recreation to all populations of people. All our
program sites are accessible.
We want to work with you gain your expert advise
into making your recreation
selection accessible for your enjoyment and
fulfillment.
Speaking of specialized equipment, SPRD has found a
terrific resource in
Challenge Alaska,
a non-profit based out of Anchorage, Alaska. These professionals not only offer
educated
advise, training and support to us and our colleagues, Challenge Alaska
coordinates
many wonderful programs, special events and world-class athletic
events for people with
and people without disabilities.
When you register for a SPRD class or program, please note
your concerns so our staff
can arrange a meeting (by phone or in person,
whatever works best for you) to ensure
your success and fulfillment.
"Don't be rec-less! Recreate today!"
We have been making a consistent and fair
effort to upgrade all our outdoor facilities
for accessible recreation. Though
we are proud of our progress, there are a few outdoor
areas which are less
accessible. We are meeting the minimum requirements, but we want
to excel beyond
that. If you find barriers to recreation, please inform the
SPRD staff
so
we can remedy the
situation together. Thanks for being our partner in improved
recreation for all.
