Ballfields

bulletLittle League Field - Baseball Field - at the SE corner of 4th Avenue & D Street
(or Ballaine Boulevard.) Fenced, on-street parking. Little League runs the concession stand &
restrooms during Little League games only. Neighbors Ballaine Playground. Enjoy a game out on a
summer night, late May, June and early July.

bulletBoulder Stadium - Softball Field & Multi-Use - at the NE corner of 4th Avenue
and D Street. Fenced, on-street parking. All gravel and sand field, hence the name... Use the restrooms
at the old Wellington Picnic area. This field is well-loved by 30+ crowd in Seward from back in the glory
days of jam-packed 4th of July and Salmon Derby tournaments, not to mention and the sights and
sounds of Seward's Swingin' Grannies. (Check out the Seward Museum for Swingin' Grannies memorabilia.)
Now, one is as likely to see RVs parked in over-flow camping or trucks and trailers parked here during
the Seward Silver Salmon Derby. Residents argue on both sides of the fence - pardon the pun - to pave
the thing for year-round parking or improve the field with turf for "real games." SPRD currently plans to
find a happy medium to continue the life of this multi-use field. We're looking for the perfect sandy-type
surfacing and the budget to cover the gravel.

Boulder Stadium also converts to a quasi- ice skating "rink" as weather conditions allow in the
winter. Seward has temperate rain forest weather, fluctuating temperatures through the winter months. Joyful
times await skaters and broom-ball players, though, when conditions are perfect. Maintaining this rink is
another fantastic volunteer opportunity.

Jon Perry Field  (the old 'High School Field') - Softball Field - sits on Kenai
Peninsula Borough property. However, it was built in 1984 by the City of Seward with volunteers and
former parks and recreation director, John Noble. Today it remains funded, maintained, scheduled and
loved by SPRD and City of Seward General Fund budget. Find this field with a turn to the west onto
Coolidge from the Seward Highway. Drive past the various cemeteries to your right. Just as Coolidge
bends to your left (south) turn right onto a dirt road behind the cemetery. The dirt road ends at the
ballfields 'complex.'

The field was recently named after the late Jon Perry, whose claims to fame are many, including family man,
commercial fisherman, contractor, sports nut and - speaking of softball - Seward High School's first varsity
girls softball coach in 2002. Mr. Perry is also credited with another set of hands which labored over this field's construction.

bulletCitizens' Field - Softball Field - also located at the end of Coolidge, this field was truly built
and funded by the people of Seward. Seward Little League and its plethora of volunteers championed the
cause and construction of the long process. The first authorized games were played the Fourth of July weekend in 2001.

Seward Little League moved their annual Little League Opening Day Ceremony here in May 2002 and dedicated the field.
Honored were Jerry Fleetwood, former Little League president and Skip Reierson who are both credited with the field's
completion. Citizens' Field is huge! We dare you softball players to come to Seward and "park it!"

District. For the soccer field at the Elementary School, call 224.3356.

bulletSports Fields & Sports Parks

bulletEvan Casey Skate Park - was added the summer of 1996, and is located within the Adams Street
Recreation Area.  New ramps and elements are often added. The park
closes at 11 pm in the summer and is closed during the off-season. Skaters
must follow posted conduct rules. As always, safety gear (approved helmet,
elbow pads, knee pads & wrist guards) is strongly recommended.

In 1996, everyone was "skating" in Alaska, but we brag about having Alaska's
first, authorized skate park. A local ordinance does prevent skateboarding
anywhere other than this skate park and on your own private property.

In 2003, the park was officially named the
Evan Casey Skate Park.

The Seward Rotary Club relocated the sand volleyball court, in order to provide for the 2004 concrete
expansion of our skate park. Check out the HUGE park now! Many more skaters are enjoying the larger
size. See photos of the construction in our
photo gallery.

bulletBittick BMX Track - was built the summer of 1997 in Forest Acres Park. The track was
constructed and designed by our beloved friend and former SPRD Program Coordinator, Rick Bittick.
Our first year, we held BMX races which were all kinds of muddy fun. Helmets are strongly
recommended. Have fun!

bulletTYC Basketball 1/2 Court - was installed the summer of 199_ after the "downtown half-
court" was pulled out of Hoben Park. Enjoyed year-round by kids at the TYC, this court is also the site
of the famous/infamous Fourth of July, Chamber of Commerce, Two-on-Two Hoops Tourney." The
concrete court is in the alley behind 3rd Avenue and Jefferson Street, behind the Community Center.
(If you're standing on 4th Avenue, it's right behind TelAlaska.)

(You can find outdoor hoops behind the Elementary School at the end of Sea Lion Drive.)

bulletTennis Court - out in Forest Acres Park needs to be resurfaced! So we submit annual Capital
Improvement Plan requests. A few years ago we added hoops for summer, outdoor basketball. Park
on Dimond, near the memorials.

(There are also school-owned tennis courts west of the High School, up the hill, often hidden by alders.)
