Teen & Youth Center's ...

TYC Snack Shack
We have been utilizing the TYC Council's Snack Shack for over 20 years as a fantastic teaching tool as
our youth learn how to run a cash register, provide customer service, volunteer, be held responsible for
promptness and commitment among many other things, such as improving math skills and learning to
handle multiple priorities.

The snacks are provided at scheduled times during the day for all of our TYC programs. Participants
may pay cash or buy "punchcard / credit cards" kept on file at TYC.

Parents are encouraged to make their wishes known to TYC about spending limits or types of purchases.
Here are some examples of notes parents have left regarding their children's selections:

"My son can spend one dollar per day."
"My kids can each buy a flavored water every day."
"My daughter cannot have candy after school."
"My child needs to stay away from red dye."

The snack shack makes money for projects for the Youth, Junior and Teen Councils.
From money made here, we can buy cool things like DVD player, X-Box games and
another TV. Also, the weekly purchases are made from "Council Funds" not from the
City's general fund.

As our youth and teen volunteers learn to work at the Snack Shack, they build a good
resume for future jobs.
