Mission Statement:

To direct and coordinate the activities of the Engineering Department. To manage all design, project management and construction inspection of City projects. City's Building Officials responsibilities include all phases of residential and commercial inspections. To develop plans, specifications, cost estimates and contracts and prepare reports, and act as liaison for the city with contractors and consultants regarding city projects.

The City of Seward is pleased to provide the Seward community with a full spectrum of building safety services. From assisting with your planning of new construction projects to certifying code compliance on your new or remodeled buildings, we look forward to working with you to help make sure your project experience is a positive one.

Our department administers plan review, permitting, and inspection services based on the most current national code standards adopted by the International Code Council, (ICC). The Building Department role is to provide the community a real and tangible service by helping ensure that the community structures are built to the current modern code.This provides huge advantages to the Seward community primarily in the realm of life and safety to help limit fire hazard and flood potential to our structures that can result in property damage or even loss of life. Codes also help ensure that our buildings will endure a long life in the harsh weather environment that Seward is known for.
